Becks and Posh in L.A.! The world's highest profile soccer dad

Oy!...I mean, dude! Becks and Posh are moving to Los Angeles!

Major League Soccer lured English Footballer (that's "soccer" player to you non-Anglophile Yanks) David Beckham to the Los Angeles team The Galaxy with a five year contract potentially worth some $250 million. Becks, as he is affectionately known around the world, will finish out his season with team Real Madrid in Spain before packing up his cleats and moving to the Left Coast.

His wife, the former Spice Girl known as "Posh" (real name Victoria) and their three sons, Brooklyn, 7, Romeo, 4 and wee Cruz, almost 2, will move out in July or August of this year.

Some would argue that the last thing L.A. needs is another celebrity couple with kids, but in a sense it's the obvious place for such a family. Hounded by crowds and paparazzi wherever they go, the BeckPosh's are moving to a place where they know how to do celebrity. Los Angeles after all, is Celebrity Ground Zero. There are private schools here that cater to the children of the very rich and the very famous. There are family-style restaurants in town where celebrity sightings are so routine nobody bats a false eyelash. There are entire industries built up around the care and feeding of high-profile families. They're in good company, at least.

And also, Becks at least is giving back. With his David Beckham Soccer Academy, just down the road (from Beverly Hills, or Bel Air, or wherever on the West Side the Beckham brood will surely settle) in industrial Carson, Becks will become the highest profile Soccer Dad around. With our large Hispanic population, soccer is hugely popular in Southern California. I expect it will get even more attention now. Good thing they all speak Spanish already.

So hey, dudes, welcome to, like, SoCal.

Here are a few places the BeckPosh boys might want to know about:

Joan's on Third - Because any Dad who just signed a contract worth a potential $250 million can afford $46 for a dozen donuts. Especially these donuts.

Since the paparazzi lie in wait here for the assured celebrity shot, best to send an assistant out to Kitson's for the very trendiest in kid duds.

Finally, the boys will need their Uggs if they want to go really native. We wear them out here, all season, every season. Even winter. If you can call it that.

One more piece of advice: The commute from the West Side to Carson is BRUTAL. If he doesn't want to become just another dad stuck in gridlock on the 405, Becks would do well to look for a place with a helicopter pad in the back. I understand there are a few places in the "Platinum Triangle" near the late Aaron Spelling's digs that feature just this particular family-friendly amenity.
