McDonald's Happy Meals spreading bad science
Filed under: Nutrition: Health
Mark Frauenfelder, creator of the insanely popular blog, Boing Boing, noticed something a little odd on a McDonald's Happy Meal bag. A sentence underneath a leaping girl reads: "You can jump 6 times higher in space."
As Mark notes, and anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of gravity could tell you, this isn't true. In fact, if you were to jump in space, you'd keep going forever.
Now, in addition to making you fat, McDonald's also makes you ignorant. Awesome.

SKL said...Come on, it was just a typo - they were obviously talking about jumping on the moon. It's not that much less accurate than some of the headlines used to catch people's attention around here . . . .
Why are we bashing McDonald's now? Surely not because they sell shakes and fries . . . ?

Chris said...There probably wasn't enough space on the bag to more accurately write "In space, if you jump you will go forever and die a cold horrible death of thirst" which it seems is what you wished they wrote for the kids.
As anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of not being a nitpicker can see, the girl is on the moon and its pretty clear that that is what they're talking about. If a kid can come away from a Happy Meal bag thinking there is somewhere in the universe where they could jump six times higher than here, that is awesome.
