Toddler quirks: I'm up to my eyeballs in bears
Filed under: Toddlers Preschoolers, Development/Milestones: Babies, Toys
My 2-year-old daughter has a thing for teddy bears. Heck, a "thing" doesn't accurately describe her love for her furry friends. An obsession? Yes, she is obsessed with teddy bears.
Recently, she has decided that she must have every single bear she owns with her at all times while we are at home. (We had to mandate that only two bears can go into the car and only one bear can go on our outing.)
That means I'm constantly hearing requests to help her move her nine bears from her room to the couch to her brother's crib, back to her room. Sometimes, she brings along a few blankets or the box of valentines we bought for her preschool class.
It is like a traveling circus in our house. The real problem is that, since she has so many bears in her harem, I always have to help. "Too heavy!" she screams when I tell her to do it herself.
I've been delegated the "mover of the bears." How wonderful.
Toddlers tend to be quirky beings by nature. I'd love to hear about other quirks. If not for entertainment, at least to know I'm not alone while dragging bears from here to there.

LB said...How about a toy pram? My DD loads tons of her "stuffed friends" in hers.
We have way way too many stuffed toys, I know they have a bad rep, but by gum somehow my kids seem to play with the all the time. And I remeber the fierce love I had for my dolls. Lucky for me my DD seems to enjoy the running back and forth to get them all relocated as part of her games with them.
When we go out I let her stuff a few in a backback or we also have a doll carrier that fits 3 "baby bjorn" style on it.
Good Luck!

Of course, being the mom of only one, it's easy to feel like this is just Who He Is.

Christina said...Yes, we have our obsessions here, too. Lately, my 2 yr. old daughter has wanted to take armfuls of toys to bed with her each night. The result? Well, the picture is here in this post from last week:

Paula said...My daughter must sleep with every stuffed animal and doll she can fit in her bed. Last count there were 5 full size dolls, one huge panda bear, and about 10 other stuffed animals. I keep telling her there's not much space left for her, but she is perfectly content. The doll obsession has recently changed to also always taking a doll in the car. Luckily, she accepts that the doll must wait in the car for us.
