Product Recall: Easy-Bake Ovens

Filed under: Health & Safety: Babies, Toys

Easy-Bake, a division of Hasbro, Inc., of Pawtucket, R.I., in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is voluntarily recalling the venerable Easy-Bake Oven. Young kids can put their hands into the oven's opening and get stuck, possibly resulting in a burn. There have been 29 reports of kids getting their hands or fingers caught in the toy, including five reports of kids getting burned in the process.

The Easy-Bake Oven is purple and pink and resembles a kitchen range with four burners on top and a front-loading oven. Only ovens sold after May 2006 are included in the recall. The recalled models were sold at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, and other toy stores and retailers from May 2006 through February 2007. They cost about $25. If you have one of these ovens, purchased during that timeframe, contact Easy-Bake for a free retrofit kit. Keep the toy away from children under eight years old. For more information, contact Easy-Bake at (800) 601-8418 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET 7 days a week or visit the firm's Web site.
