UNICEF says Dutch children are the most fortunate
Categories: Fun & Activities, Development
The Netherlands leads the pack when it comes to taking care of their children, according to a new study conducted by UNICEF. Personally, I think it's because of the clogs. (After all, #2 is Sweden, also well-known for clogs.) "The Netherlands has always been a very child-centered society," says Paul Vangeert, professor of developmental psychology at the University of Groningen. "In particular, there is a lot of focus on young children."Parents and children in the Netherlands generally have very good relationships and are able to talk about almost anything. Mothers often stay home with the children or take off work for extended periods after birth. According to Vangeert, children grow up in a "highly protective, highly positive caring environment." This all sounds pretty good to me. What do you think?

These UNICEF "studies" are getting a lot of play on BB. Must be one of two things: the writers are idea-sapped or UNICEF is a "sponsor."

What does UNICEF have to say about the disabled, sick and old people in the Netherlands?

What do you mean by that Sandyone?
I don't know if UNICEF has anything in particular to say about disabled, sick and old people in the Netherlands. But I'm sure if they did research on the subject they would find that these people receive good care and assistance from our healthcare system.

I don't have anything to say about UNICEF, but I do agree that Sweden is a great place for kids. That's why we're moving there (my husband is originally from Sweden, so it's not totally random). It's a wonderful place to grow up--lots of good food, schools, beautiful countryside to explore, values we like.
