Court upholds teaching children about gay marriage

A federal judge in Massachusetts has ruled that schools in Lexington, Mass. can teach children about gay marriage.
According to court records, two families felt that reading the gay-themed book King & King violated their religious rights by saying that homosexuality is both a right and normal. The school district said the book was read due to the fact that it is helping children prepare to become better members of society.
Massachusetts is the only state in the US were homosexuals can legally wed.
The book is about a prince who can't find his mate, even after meeting a variety of princesses. He eventually finds another prince and the two fall in love and have a kiss. The families feel the book is in direct opposition to their deep religious faith and plan on appealing the ruling.

Jessica said...It truly amazes me that religious zealots can still claim that homoesexuality is a chosen "disorder". Science is proving, on a daily basis, that it is nature, not nurture. It is sad when children are not permitted to read, b/c the subject matter of said material is different. That's all, just different.
The job of an educator, and in my opinion of a parent, is to present children with all the knowledge needed to make sound, educated, decisions on their own about their beliefs.
