Enraged soccer fan karate kicks 8-year-old player
Filed under: Tweens, Health & Safety: Babies
It appears watching 8-year-olds play soccer proved just a little too frustrating for one German man, who, after one player committed a foul, ran onto the field and attacked the offender with a karate kick.
Fortunately the other spectators were quick to react, restraining the nut job before he could show off any additional martial arts skills.
But why did he fly off the handle? According to a police spokesman, "It seems likely the man was related to the player who was fouled, but it's not entirely clear at this point"
So, it's possible that this man is just enraged at the sorry state of Germany's soccer-playing youth, and this one, egregious trespass was the straw that broke the camel's back. To be honest, this is the explanation I'm hoping for.
The boy was bruised, and suffered grazes, but was otherwise unharmed. Maybe he'll think twice about that next slide tackle, though.

tammy said...What kind of crazy do you have to be when you feel compelled to physically harm a child, even if you believe that child has in some way slighted your own? This man wasn't protecting that boy from a knife-wilding lunatic. They were playing sports! Sports can be rough!

Apparently, Germans have very diverse reactions to soccer games...
My husband is German and I do have to say that his interest in "trying" (we haven't succeeded yet, but "trying"'s the fun part, eh?)was definitely piqued while watching Germany play in the World Cup!
Anyhoo, I'm just a lurker, who thought I'd de-lurk. We moved from Austin recently, and I occasionally refer the husband to your blog to point out how much more excellent it would be to raise children in Austin instead of where we are now. Thanks for being so ding-dang funny, and for the brilliant observations you make about being a dad.
