Sleepover for Thursday, April 5

Categories: Playground Bureau

My kids aren't in bed yet; they are all quietly watching a movie (Matilda) while I sit on the couch with them, typing away. Every once in awhile, somebody pokes their head over my shoulder, demanding that I click on the "arrow that makes it play!" I spent a little while saying, "Oh, not right now. In a little bit we can watch something, but I'm busy reading other things." Then I finally caved while on Sugared Harpy's site. Willow thought the boy with trains was funny, but she still couldn't figure out why I laughed so loud. (That link is a little on the not-safe side, depending on your opinion about, uh, well about toys for grown ups.)

Okay then, kids, back to the movie!

Next, I read a post over at London Calling, which didn't tempt the kids but was very interesting to me. Lisa writes about her family's decision for her husband to be a work at home dad while she works outside the home: How is it that we -- my husband and I -- are both frowned upon by a good part of society. I'm selfish because I work outside the home and my husband is a "failure" because he stays home.

Foodmomiac had quite the shock when she arrived home from an evening out. I think she handled the situation with much more grace and reserve than I'd have been able to muster. What would you have done in her shoes? (Also, may none of you ever find yourselves in them!)

Over at Olive Fingers, Kirsten is working to help organize a fundraising walk in Bend, Oregon to raise money for cystic fibrosis research. Her best friend's daughter, three-year-old Grace, has cystic fibrosis. If you live nearby, please consider walking with her. If not, you can make a donation on-line.

And, changing gears completely again, have you checked out MamaPop? Written by some of the internet's funniest and most pop culture savvy moms, it's always worth a read.

Movie's almost over, and bedtime has come and gone. Time to go brush and floss four sets of teeth, tuck everyone in and have a beer while packing tomorrow's lunches. Or, you know, maybe I'll just go blog surf for a little while longer.
