Indigo Moms and Crystal children?
Filed under: Celeb Kids, Celeb Parents, Rumors, Media
I didn't know much about Jenny McCarthy, other than the fact that she used to be on MTV and I guiltily enjoyed Belly Laughs while I was pregnant.
But while I was flipping through the Internet tonight, I landed on a very interesting page that details Jenny's beliefs about her son with autism, and her experiences in being his Mother. Essentially, Jenny believes that her son is a "Crystal Child" and that she is an "Indigo Mother." From what I can gather, an "Indigo" person is someone with an evolved consciousness, and "Crystal" children, according to this website, are "powerful children whose main purpose is to take us to the next level in our evolution." Jenny's son is apparently autistic and she has embraced a very specific - and slightly unusual - belief system as explanation and inspiration. Whoa. Whoa.
Anyway, I really don't quite grasp the concept, but I'm intrigued that a fairly mainstream(ish) actress is so absorbed in a fairly "out-there" kind of religion. This article details why Jenny McCarthy believes it's horrifying to feed your kids McDonald's and why she thinks global warming is a good thing.
Weird. But oddly fascinating.

Jenn said...Um. gosh. That interview just got wackier and wackier. I guess I'm just a left brained, rule bound individual rather than an Indigo person....

Keri said...What a coincidence, a couple days ago I picked up the book "Indigo Children" that my husband gave me when our son was born. I guess I wasn't ready to read it until now. The information feels bizarre but at the same time it makes sense. I'm still working my way through the book but I enjoyed reading this article, which reinforced what I've been reading so far. Thanks for sharing it, as bizarre as it may be to you. :-)

LMT said...I think that calling an autistic child an "Indigo Child" is just a way to put a pretty name on an unfortunate ailment. Down's syndrome just sounds terrible....lets call them "Periwinkle Children" instead....

It's a difficult thing to talk about freely because as a society, we have been brainwashed for generations and generations on how to think, feel and act that any time anything 'new' (not really new but new to our way of thinking) comes about, it's met with great resistence because it challenges everything we have ever known. Fact of the matter is that there is a vast underground of this 'new' going on in many fields including healthcare. I have seen things that MD's drop their jaws at saying 'that's impossible' but there it is right in front of their eyes. Same goes for the phenomenon of our human race genetically changing. It's very true and real and we can hide our heads under the sand if it makes us feel better (I mean we've been doing it for so long on so many levels in this world) but to embrace positive change and welcome it's presence is something that's not for everyone. I hope you continue your searches because I must say, you are *SO* right on track, it's wonderful. With your discovery of The Secret and your discovery of Indigo/Crystal Children, good things are coming your way. There are many communities online that will help keep you on track if you feel you need to be surrounded by like-minded individuals. Happy Travels!

Cathy said...LMT, I think you are way off base with that comment regarding Down's syndrome.... "just sounds terrible....lets call them "Periwinkle Children" instead...." We know why children with Downs have Downs, and the medical name is Trisomy 21. On the other hand, there is definitely not a one-size-fits-all explanation for autism. Your comment was insensitive and lacked an educated view. I don't think it is Jenny McCarthy's goal to put a pretty name on autism, she is probably trying to look for answers out there - we all can just take it or leave it. Maybe you were just trying to be funny, or light - but it touched a nerve.

Claudia said...I have two children with autism. This indigo/crystal crap disgusts me. A. Its a band-aid solution to make themselves feel better and to give a spiritual reason for their diagnosis. B. A new age marketing ploy for money. Gee, theres so many tshirts and books/dvd sets to buy..who is profiting? Not me or my children. Lets see money go to more research and find the real environmental causes for this epidemic. Not new age pyschobabble.
