Video: On being a stay-home dad
Filed under: Just For Dads, Work Life
ParentDish reader Laura e-mailed us this morning to tell us about this week's video at the Washington Post's onBeing project. The clip is of a man named Jeffrey talking about his experiences as a stay home parent. Laura wrote, "In just a few minutes, he both interacts beautifully with his baby, describes a chaotic day for a stay at home parent, and addresses the many, many concerns and divided feelings that stay at home parents have. It is a very beautiful piece."
She is entirely right. The clip is remarkable for its good humor and simplicity, but also because Jeffrey really gets at the heart of being a stay home parent, at the joys and the difficulties. He is funny and charming and honest.
I also really liked this clip because it is about being a PARENT, not a mommy or a daddy, and it highlights how certain parenting experiences are really genderless. In a world of Mommy wars, it's nice to hear from a dad who sees the good and bad and still loves what he's doing.
Thanks to Laura for the heads up.
