I am a lesbian and it's Archie Bunker's fault

When I was younger, I saw an episode of All in the Family where Edith's cousin Liz had passed away. Archie and Edith travel to attend the funeral and end up back at Liz's apartment with her partner. I remember Liz's partner telling Edith how after school she and Liz would sit in their parlor and have tea together. The woman asked Edith if she might keep it to remember Liz. The tea set had been in Edith's family for generations but of course Edith said she could. Archie, naturally, protested, thinking of the value, but in the end, the love that Liz and her partner had shared won out. That was when I realized that love really has nothing to do with body parts, but with how people feel about each other. The love and loss that Liz's partner displayed on that show was enough to melt even Archie Bunker's cold heart. That, of course, was the whole point of Archie Bunker. He was purposefully an over-the-top racist, misogynistic anti-intellectual to show how ridiculous such beliefs are. It worked for me. That, in large part, is why I get so upset about attempts to treat people -- any people -- as second-class citizens and why I can't understand why we have to look in people's pants before letting them get married.
So, what's the point of telling you this? Today is the second annual Blogging for LGBT Families Day. Last year's event had more than 130 writers participating, sharing many diverse points of view. This year, the hope is to have even more people involved, showing support for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) families.
If you'd like to participate, it's pretty simple -- just write a post on your blog related to LGBT families and let Dana over at Mombian know about it. You don't have to be part of the LGBT community, nor do you need to be a parent. The more support the better.

Already done on my "other" blog. Dana had several links already by the time I finished mine.
