Britney Spears smoking while playing with her kids
Filed under: Celeb Kids, Life & Style, Celeb Parents
Oh dear. I so very much want to root for this woman. This seemingly clueless, trashy woman. But Britney Spears makes it so freaking hard to do so. Her unending bad fashion taste is forgivable. Her public family squabbles can be excused. Even the head shaving, because who among us hasn't felt the urge to take a razor to our heads on a bad hair day. But smoking in front of your kids? No. Nuh-uh. This picture of Spears holding a cigarette while she watches her sons frolic in a sandbox is one in a series of a captured play date. True, they are not all cooped up in a car where Sean Preston and Jayden James are forced to inhale smoke laden air, but it's still just no good. Spears just can't seem to do anything that isn't in bad taste, poor thing.

MY MOM SMOKED IN FRONT OF ME , I SMOKE IN FRONT OF MY KIDS INSIDE, NOT TO MENTION SHE IS OUTSIDE AND TAKING THE LIGHTER AWAY FROM HER CHILD NOT LETTING HIM PLAY WITH IT. I WISH THEY WOULD JUST LEAVE THE POOR GIRL ALONE AND QUIT PICKING ABOUT EVERY THING SHE DOES. AND KEVIN FEDERLINE GETTING "FATHER OF THE YEAR IS A F**KING JOKE. WHEN IS PEOPLE GOING TO SEE HE DID HER WRONG AND CLEANED HIS ACT UP BECAUSE HE WANTED HER $$$$ NOT BECAUSE HE'S A GOOD DAD. A GOOD DAD WOULDN'T TRY TO KEEP KIDS FROM THEIR MOM

Adrienne said...Okay, I have to agree with you that smoking in front of young children is not setting a good example. However, my dad smoked my entire childhood. Yes, he smoked in front of us. I have to say though none of my brothers or sisters ever took up smoking. We were so repulsed by his smoking that we made the decision early on not to smoke. I'm not condoning smoking in front of children or smoking at all. However, does Britney ever get any privacy? I mean goodness, if we had media "spying" on us imagine how many blogs would be written about things we do that others don't agree with. Besides, she's the one who has to live with her choices...is it really any of our business?

Alice said...I don't know. My father smoked in front of me my entire childhood also, and I emulated him. Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I have ever done, and I hope my daughter never has to struggle with the addiction to nicotine. It would be hard to teach her that it is unhealthy to smoke if I did it in front of her. Still, I feel sorry for Spears for our intrusion into what should have been a private moment.

Marcia said...Oh. My. Goodness. How many smoker's take the steps to NOT do it in front of their kids? I'm guessing maybe 5%. I don't smoke and don't approve of it, but that's my own opinion. Both of my parents did my entire childhood and my mother just quit about 2 years ago. I think it's pathetic that we can't leave these people alone. She's not in a couped up vehicle with her windows up puffing away with the kids in the back. She's outside and her kids are playing. I don't see the big deal.

Jenna said...Nope. Not cool. I don't care if she's outside. My childrens' lungs are far more precious than any relaxation or relief that a cigarette could provide to me. (I'm a previous smoker, cured by trying to conceive our son Nicholas.) I can't imagine willingly placing your child in a situation that could cause them harm and that includes damaging their lungs. Sigh. I, too, want to root for Britney but she makes it hard for me.

Ginny said...I am not a smoker nor am I a Britney Spears fan but I have to weigh in here. I don't think that it is bad for her to be smoking in front of her kids while they are outside. Give this poor chick a break, people.

LT said...I agree with Ginny - she's outside. Give her a break! Can you imagine sitting outside while your kids play in the sandbox and having to deal with CHOPPERS flying overhead trying to catch your every.single.move with camera, etc? Heck, as an ex-smoker - I can see why she'd want one!

heather said...Okay, I'm just going to say up front that my husband and I do enjoy a smoke on our back porch at the end of the day...after our daughter has gone to sleep. We have never smoked in our home or car, we always shower and change clothes before bed and she has NEVER, NEVER, AND WILL NEVER see us smoke. It is a horrible habit that I hope we have the power to give up. It is deplorable to see a mother smoke in front of her children. It is irresponsible for so many reasons. It is a terrible habit and one that I certainly pray that my daughter will never take up.

Ethel said...The woman is teaching her kids to smoke, if she wants to have her kids smoke I guess that's her business.
What is especially poignant is her youngest reaching for her cigarettes as she carries him off. Well, at least she was wearing panties.

CC said...Ok, give me a break. I mean you are ALL perfect parents, right? Who are any of us to judge anyone else? I mean you never know how someones life is until you have walked as them. Well, thats not possible. I think that this world needs, as a whole, a little more understanding and a whole lot more compassion! If you look at those other pictures of her - you will see that she loves those boys just as much as you love your children. I cannot pass judgment this woman because I am not her. So she smokes outside while her kids are playing. Do you even really think they notice? What they are both under 2?
Like someone else said "those that live in glass houses should not throw stones".

CC said...Yu know - I guess I was not quite done yet. You want to spout out about the toxins and all the bad stuff she is exposing her child to... My question is "do you eat out with your child?", "do you buy all organic foods (or better yet grown your own)", "do you let your child eat meat?", "do you clean your home with chemicals instead of natural products?", "what detergent do you use for your clothes?", "I bet you use dryer sheets too?"
Have any of you stone throwers bothered to re-evaluate your own lives. Do you know all the toxins in any of those things mentioned. Smoking won't sound so bad after you check that out.
Knowledge is power. Though many choose to live in the ignorance is bliss lifestyle!

Nicola said...Another child of a smoker. I'm sure that there are lots of us out there. In my experience, my dad's smoking was actually the best deterrent to our starting up. We weren't even interested in trying it. Growing up around noxious and disgusting fumes doesn't really breed curiosity about inhaling even more of them, only this time on purpose. Had my dad not smoked, I probably would have given it a try at some point (it was the big "rebel" activity in high school, uber cool), but I was firmly disinterested. Thanks, Dad!
And, for the mom who will never let her child see her smoke -- she'll be able to smell it. She'll know that you smoke. And if its that bad, quit. My dad did it for my own son, actually, his grandson, after smoking for 50 years, many packs a day, he has been "clean" for over a year now.
