Pottermania vs sleep
Filed under: Places To Go, Media, That's Entertainment
I like Harry Potter, I really do. And J.K. Rowling is an imaginative genius who deserves all the millions she's getting for creating a series that inspired a short-attention span generation to sit down and read.
But why in the world would a children's book be released at midnight on a Friday night?!
We had an out of town baseball game that lasted until nine thirty and I heard more than one child begging parents, already weary from a long week, if they could camp out at the bookstore until Harry arrived. (It was a tough crowd, they all said no. Luckily, we had used a gift card to pre-order on Amazon and were spared even being asked.)
Were you one of the fun parents in line with kids at midnight? And if so, how is the day after working out for you?!

We dressed up in costume, we played games, met fun people, and cheered LOUDLY with the crownwhen the book was handed out at midnight. When they put the book in my daughter's hands, the look on her face was priceless. This was her 3rd Harry Potter midnight release party, and it never gets old!! Unfortunatly, it was the last. Now, back to the book!

Kids were fine with that.

Uly said...Is book 7 even appropriate for children who aren't old enough to stay up late for a special occasion? I mean, if it's anything like the immediately preceding installments, I'm guessing it's chock full of death, angst, and badly written kissing.
