Surviving PPD (Post-Potter Depression)
Filed under: Playground Bureau, Media, Day Care & Education, That's Entertainment
For the speedy and/or sleep deprived readers, it is over.
The final installment of the Harry Potter series (unless J.K. Rowling has a change of heart, of course) means that many kids are laying around glassy-eyed, stunned, and possibly depressed.
What's left at the library for Harry Potter fans if they've already read all of Harry Potter?
A blog was created in April that addresses this very question. What Would Harry Read? explores and discusses the books one would expect to find Harry, Hermione, Ron or even Dumbledore's noses stuck into during their free time.
Of course Hermione would love The Secret Garden! Her habit of sneaking into the restricted section of the library at Hogwarts is striking similar to Mary squeezing through the gates to get access to the forbidden, overgrown flower garden! Dumbledore would be wise to be studying The Dangerous Book for Boys and 211 Things a Bright Boy Can Do, not only to increase his own knowledge, but to find things to keep the Weasley brothers occupied. And you just know Harry could completely relate to Darren Shan's Demonata series.
This is one blog definitely worth bookmarking and sharing with Potter fans.
And for those who never fell under the Potter spell, the Independent newspaper invited a twelve and fourteen-year-old to review and share their favorite books and there's not a Rowling in the lot.
Don't let the excitement of reading burn out with the end of the Harry Potter series. Keep a love of reading alive and help your child realize magic can be found in all sorts of books!
