Nicole Richie gets jail time

To nobody's surprise, TMZ is reporting that Lionel Richie's pregnant daughter has been sentenced to four days in the clink as a result of her second DUI bust last December. Nicole Richie would have been serving five days, but was given credit for the six hours she sat in jail when originally arrested. Richie was also fined $2,048, ordered to attend a 21-day alcohol education course and put on probation for three years.
The judge also told Richie that if she drove drunk again and killed somebody, she would be charged with murder, not manslaughter. Apparently, she agreed to this stipulation back when she was busted for her first DUI.
Being pregnant and in jail will be unpleasant for Richie, but I think she got off easy. Considering the fact the she was arrested while driving under the influence on the wrong side of the freeway, she is lucky that she is even alive to be sentenced. And I hope Lionel recognizes that this is not normal behavior and that his daughter needs help.
