Biodegradable toys
Filed under: Toddlers Preschoolers, Preschoolers, Big Kids, Toys
Green Toys Inc. thinks producing toys can be for easier on the environment without sacrificing childhood fun. The company recently unveiled a line of classic toys (shovel & pail set, dining set, tea set, and set of gardening tools) created using bioplastic.
Bioplastic is created from renewable, sustainable ingredients like corn and other natural ingredients. Unlike most petroleum-based plastics, it is also PVC and phthalate-free. Bioplastic has been used for cutlery items in the food service industry but according to the company, this is the first time it has been utilized for toys. The earth-friendlier material offers the added attraction of being biodegradable, so when Johnny breaks his shovel digging for buried treasure, the discarded toy will decompose within months instead of decades, like traditional plastics.
The entire line of Green Toys will be available in the fall, making it possible for your holiday shopping to be a little bit greener.
