Scary Spice files paternity suit against Eddie Murphy

Melanie Brown (Scary Spice of the Spice Girls) has filed a paternity suit against Eddie Murphy, the father of her four-month-old daughter. At a press release, Brown told reporters that "I am here for one reason and one reason only -- her name is Angel. Angel is my baby and Eddie's. She will always know that she was planned and wanted by both of us, but I want her to know that she has two parents who desire to be responsible for her during her life and who love her so much that they want to be a part of it."

In the lawsuit, Brown is seeking child support and sole custody, although she says she hopes Murphy will see and be involved with his daughter. "Murphy was promising to do the right thing, but to date he has not done the right thing," said her lawyer. "Mr. Murphy can have all the babies he chooses to have, but his responsibility needs to be to his own children."

I don't know about you, but I've always (well, almost always) enjoyed Eddie Murphy's work and thought he seemed like a decent sort; I do hope that, whatever the situation between him and Ms. Brown, that he does own up and becomes a good father to his daughter.
