Hover Skateboards a possibility?
The coolest toy ever imagined was, by far, the Hover Skateboard in Back to the Future Part II. Michael J. Fox looked so freakin' rad, cruzin' around town while levitating off the ground. For years we entertained rumors that Hover Skateboards were real -- that they'd been invented for the movie -- but were so dangerous that they were never released to the public.
Don't judge me -- I was 6 when that movie came out, and I really, really wanted one.
But such seemingly ridiculous dreams could soon become reality, as a couple professors at the University of St Andrews in Scotland have figured out a way to reverse something called the Casimir Force -- a discovery that, essentially, means that large objects (like a person) could (in theory) be levitated.
I barely understand the science, and I seriously doubt hovering skateboards will be the first application of this new technology, but a guy can dream, right?
