Posh Spice 'Woman of the Year'?
Filed under: Celeb Parents, Mommy Wars
Here is what I know about Posh Spice, aka Victoria Beckham: she used to be a Spice Girl, she's married to a really hunky soccer star, she's very, very thin, has a funky haircut and two kids. As far as I know, she doesn't actually do anything other than be famous. Perhaps there is something about her that I am not aware of? There must be, because according to TMZ, Glamour Magazine just awarded her the Woman of the Year Award because they feel she is "indicative of the modern woman."
Is Victoria Beckham really a "role model" as the editor of the magazine claims? I suppose if you are working towards being very rich and wearing tight, expensive clothes while looking completely miserable, she's a good one to emulate. Otherwise, I don't get it.
Coming in behind Posh as examples of the "modern woman" we all wish we could be were Sienna Miller, who was apparently too drunk to make a speech, the musical group Girls Aloud (who?), Beyonce and Helen Mirren. Oh, and Angelina Jolie. Posh Spice beat Angelina Jolie as a role model for women.
I am going to go out on a limb here and say I think Glamour Magazine is shamelessly courting the favor of America's newest celebrity import. What do you think? Is Posh a good role model for women?

As a geek girl, if I had to pick a celebrity for woman of the year/role model, I'd go with Danica McKellar. She's done more than look pretty, marry someone famous, and hire a good stylist. And the only questionable thing I've heard her name associated with is a photo shoot in Maxim, unlike other celebrities who also make tabloid headline writers' jobs easy.
Even though I'm not a big fan of "cutifying" things, her book to help middle school girls get comfortable with math was a great idea. I find it amazing that she went from acting to proving an original theorem as an undergrad. She doesn't need to rely on her looks to be successful, which is not something girls see too often.
Or I'd go for a writer like JK Rowling. Regardless of what you think about Harry Potter, it's sparked many kids' interest in reading.

So perhaps they mean she embodies the modern woman by working, taking care of her kids, as opposed to hiring a bunch of nannies, and still making sure she looks good, as opposed to many of the washed out moms in ponytails and old jeans I see everyday. It is called Glamour magazine, so I am sure they weren't exactly looking much further than skin deep anyhow.

Naturally they wouldn't be choosing the frumpy looking moms no matter how much of a role model they otherwise were. And yes, she had a career before the children and continued to be a businesswoman by starting a designer label. And I think perhaps, they were looking for a woman who hasn't stolen someone else's husband to be the role model woman(which would rule out Angelina Jolie)? And had all her children from just one husband: rare in today's glamour world. Perhaps some moral values were being looked at.

She is constantly seen without them, most notably when she came to America to find a home for her family. Who do you think was watching her kids? Almost all wealthy celebs have nannies, even if they claim they are full-time moms. And you should wake up and realize that there's nothing wrong with a nanny helping out a family. Some people don't have relatives that are able to help instead. And as for looking good, again you've got to be kidding me. She is FILTHY rich. Even without her husband's wealth, she made millions being a spice girl. She can afford to look anyway she wants. She can spend hours at the salon while her kids are being cared for by their nanny. First you say it's important for a woman to raise her kids, then you criticize the ones who are working so hard they don't have the time or energy to look like a million bucks. I'm sorry their kids come before their appearance. By the way, most moms aren't hounded by paparazzi or walk red carpets, so they don't NEED to look perfect everyday.
