Product Recall: Mattel "Sarge" die cast toy cars
Categories: Health & safety, Toys & games
About 253,000 of the toy cars were sold nationwide at retail stores from May 2007 through August 2007 for between $7 and $20 (depending on whether they were sold individually or in sets).
The recall involves the 2 1/2" die cast "Sarge" toy military jeep. The jeep has the markings "7EA" and "China" on the bottom. The toy is sold alone or in a package of two and might have product number M1253 (for single cars) or K5925 (for cars sold in sets) printed on the packaging. Cars marked "Thailand" are not included in the recall.
No injuries have yet been reported, but if you have one of these toys, you should immediately take it away from your child and contact Mattel at (800) 916-4997 anytime or visit the firm's Web site for instructions on receiving a replacement toy.

Be wary of everything around your child. It sounds paranoid, but Mattel is one of the best producers (no, I don't work for them) and very hands-on in their China operations. Almost all companies manufacture in China and most just order without even taking a look at the factories, so everything should be suspect.
If toys, apparel, shoes, or anything else smells odd, toss it! There are non-lead cancer causing substances in lots of manufactured goods.
Hmmmm, anyone remember making sock dolls? Now might be a good time to try it out!

Welcome to the fallout from NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and the like. This is the oucome we Americans get for outsourcing all of our "overly paid" trade and factory jobs to other countries that deliver cheap labor (not just China, but Mexico, India, etc...). Cheap in price oftentimes mean cheap in quality. Most of our clothing, shoes, medicines, food and toys are now made in countries that have lower quality control expectations and pay their laborers much less. You get what you pay for.
