Email ThisCreating protective gear for kids as an protective measure isn't limited to the paranoia of American parents. According to the BBC, due to requests from several concerned parents, a British company will be creating school uniforms lined with Kevlar.
A spokesperson for the company said, "We introduced Kevlar-lined hooded tops earlier this year and (from) that a few parents asked us if we could alter school uniforms to make them stab proof. We are offering the service on a private, individual basis."
Even though school stabbings are quite rare, the seven teenagers stabbed in London this past year was enough inspire some parents to open their pocketbooks for safety insurance features in clothing.
One British mom considering purchasing a Kevlar-line jacket for her son stated, "I think it is a good idea. You are not so much worried now about adults snatching kids, but about the other children."
It's too bad that companies are more than willing to come up with products to protect during an actual attack but no one is creating or funding programs to help stop the violence in the first place.
