Product Recall: Hampton Direct Magnetic Toy Train

Filed under: Health & Safety: Babies, Toys

This is just the cutest little toy train set I have ever seen! It's a shame it is potentially harmful to the little kids who play with it. Due to the presence of lead paint - from China, of course - the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Hampton Direct have announced a voluntary recall of these train sets. The contain excessive amounts of lead in the paint and we all know what that means - young children are at risk of lead poisoning.

The recall involves the Magnetic Alphabet and Number train set. The wooden sets include an engine, caboose, and four-wheeled wooden cars with either a letter or number attached to top. The alphabet set contains 28 pieces and the number set contains 12 pieces. Each car in the set is 2 ½ x 2 ½ x 2 inches in size.

About 27,000 of these train sets were sold through Johnson Smith Company, The Paragon Gift, Inc., and Starcrest Products of California catalogs from December 2005 through July 2007 for about $30.

If you have one of these train sets, you are advised to stop using it immediately and dispose of it. For instructions on receiving a replacement train set, contact Hampton Direct at (800) 208-4050 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit their Web site. Additionally, you may email the company at trainrecall@hamptondirect.com.
