Product Recall: Thomas & Friends, Curious George Tops and Pails
Categories: Safety, Toys & Games
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Schylling Associates Inc., of Rowley, Mass.have announced a voluntary recall of Spinning Tops and Tin Pails. Can you guess why? Of course, it is due to excessive levels of lead paint in the Chinese made toys.
The tops and pails are metal with wooden handles. The tops are painted with Thomas and Friends, Curious George, or a circus scene. The pails are painted with the same characters or are a solid red or yellow. This recall includes tops with wooden handles only. If your top has a plastic handle, it is not included in the recall.
About 66,000 of the tops and 4,700 of the pails were sold in specialty toy stores and gift shops nationwide from July 2001 to July 2002. The tops retailed for about $13, the pails for about $6.
No injuries have been reported, but if you have one of these tops or pails, you should immediately take it away from your child and contact Schylling at (800) 767-8697 between 9 am and 5 pm ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm's Web site.

Do we have to have a separate post about every single child-related product recall which affects the USA? Honestly, it's almost getting spam-like now. I feel like I have more of these useless recall notifications in my feed reader than actual Parentdish posts. :o/

I agree, it seems that the media is becoming addicted to these stories. Whilst parents are obviously interested in these stories, I think they should summerize them.

My feeling is, be realistic. If you have a painted toy that was made in China, guess what? Probably lead paint. Keep it out of your kid's mouth. Hopefully future generations won't be dealing with this issue, but I'm sure that it will be a new toxic hazard, something else that was cheap and easy, ignore the dangers.

Where can I actually find a web-site that will actually put ALL of the recalls on toys on one page ( with pictures )so that us parents can go straight to it to see if our children are in danger?
I also have a suggestion, Instead of all of these toy companies pinching pennies by importing everything from other countries, why not ( I know this is a CRAZY idea ) but, why not go back to AMERICAN MADE toys?
