Rocky mountain baby boom
Categories: Babies, Pregnancy & Birth, Places To Go
Last winter was a severe one in Denver, Colorado. The first storm hit on December 21 and there was snow on the ground for 61 consecutive days. Many residents were stuck in their homes for days. And even Scrabble gets tiresome after a couple months. So what did people there do in January and February? Well, let's just say they did it.Now, doctors say they are preparing for the aftermath. Sky Ridge Medical Center is expecting an increase of 20% in births this October. "I think I'm going to store some sleep the rest of this month because it's going to be busy at the end of September and early October," said Dr. Steve Grover.
Meanwhile, a local children's store is seeing some additional impact. Sales at Studio Bini are up six percent and store owner Linde Schlumbohm is having a tough time keeping enough stock on hand. "We've also been selling a lot of diaper bags and blankets," she said. "I'm completely wiped out of blankets. I can't keep up with the blankets."
Hmmm... seems to me a few less blankets might have prevented all this in the first place. Anyone in the mile high city out there? Any blizzard babies on the way?

I never understand when we hear stories like this. Most couples are having sex several times each week, anyway. I hardly believe that people are having less sex in the summer when they can spend more time outdoors than in the winter!! Maybe people are so distracted by a big storm that they forget to use their birth control? Oh wait. That's ridiculous, too.

We got pregnant with our daughter in Feb. During a snow storm. We werent "trying"(I had been told just the month before I would need help getting pregnant)
I will admit we have more sex during the fall/winter months. Much better to snuggle up under a blanket and make love than to have to crank up the a/c and still sweat your asses off.

I agree that it makes no logical sense, but there was also a baby boom about 9 months after the huge blackout in Cleveland. *shrug* Who can explain why, I don't know!

Maybe it's because people aren't going to work when there's a snowstorm and they're stuck inside, so hey what else is there to do?
