Monsters are no match for this three-year-old (VIDEO)
Categories: Toddlers, Development
My daughter likes to pretend that she is an all-power bad ass that can fend off monsters and other imaginary foes. She likes it when I make up stories where she's the main character, and conquers nefarious pink and green giants who try to break into her house. Even better, is when she pretends I'm the monsters, and I get to spend 30 minutes trying to "break in" to her room, while she shouts at me to "GO AWAY, MISTER!"
This toddler, however, has a far more direct approach when it comes to keeping monsters out of her house -- and a very solid rationale for why her course of action would be appropriate.
It's one of the funniest things I've seen in a good long while.

My kids walked in as I was watching this and they were laughing their ass of opps I mean butt. I remember those days referring to yesterday when my daughter told her teacher to sit down and be quiet.

It's a cute video, but I'd be horrified if my daughter would say that. I can only hope that since I personally don't use those types of words at home that she won't either. Some of my relatives have children under 5 that curse like little sailors all day and they just respond in the same way by laughing at them.

If my toddler ever cursed like that the last thing I would do is laugh. Children shouldn't be exposed to language--or concepts--like that. In my opinion of course.

By the way, I wish you had mentioned it had profanity. I put my kid on my lap to watch what I thought was a funny video of a kid her age and she got to hear that language instead. Should have previewed it I guess. Thanks.

My Husband was fwded that video a few months ago and we laughed for hours. Our only language issue in our house was an accidental slip, or two, of "Oh God" which has created an interesting situation. Oh, fun.

I admit that I can swear like a Marine when I am royally ticked off. I will post swears as well. I dont however use foul language when my daughter is present.
And to laugh when a child is using "bad" language is the same as telling them "it's ok" to do it. It negates the "that isnt a word you should be using"

I didn't watch the video when I first read parentDish this morning. But after I went back to check out posts, my curiosity got to me and I watched it. I HATE to admit that I did laugh. I'll admit that I'm now a grandmother and NOT the parent but I would have had a terrible time taping that and not laughing. Who would have expected her to say that??? I think as parents, we judge to much. Have you ever riden a school bus? If you think your kids don't or won't use that kind of language when your not around, think again. I was a playground/lunch lady for 15 years and have heard everything. She was so innocent and pure. It wasn't meant as a bad thing. It wasn't like she called someone an ass. She was going to "take care of the monster". I've learned the longer I live, the more relaxed I get and don't get worked up over little things. Had she thought it was wrong, she wouldn't have said it in front of mom. Did you see the look on her face when her mom said she should use the word butt??? It was an innocent thing.

The real funny thing is that she doesn't say "ass" she says "ask". You need to really listen to it. I saw this months ago, and thought it was funny, and still do.

I thought it was kinda funny because she obviously didn't know "ass" was a bad word.
Once I babysat for some hillbillies who had a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old. They were both brats of the first degree, and I was getting ready to take something away from the two-year-old when the three-year-old announced, "If you dare touch my brother, I will kick your ass, you bitch!" I told her parents about it later, and they acted like they didn't know where she got the idea she could talk that way. Needless to say, I didn't go out of my way to babysit for them again.

I love the way she says "Ooooh!" at the end, when her mum tells her to say butt instead of ass. Too cute! She obviously didn't know she was using a "bad" word.
I don't personally see ass as a bad word though, but we're quite liberal with words at our house so it should come as no surprise.

Yeah, Sandyone, I huddled in the corner for the rest of the night. I still have nightmares of a tiny blonde pixie kicking my ass with her pointy little shoe. Ouch!
I must say it struck me as odd, the intensity of the 3-year-old's protectiveness of her brother. She was pretty serious. I wondered what might have happened before to cause that kind of reaction in such a young child.
