8 things you didn't know about being a mom
Filed under: Just For Moms, Your Pregnancy
I read this article on CNN with some interest. I've been a mom for over 25 years now and I am still learning things. But for new moms, the learning curve is huge and while you may get more advice than you ever wanted, nothing can fully prepare you for what is about to happen to your life.
Paula Spencer, of Parenting.com, has compiled a list of eight not-so-bright-sides of being a mom. While she does include the silver lining to each cloud, her points are well-made. Some examples: Once you have children, using the bathroom alone becomes a treat. You are going to mess up and make mistakes. Your kid is going to hurt your feelings. But the one that resonates the most with me is the fact that you won't know for sure whether you've done a good job or not for 20 or 30 years. Oh, you will get clues along the way, but you won't know for sure until your child leaves you. Speaking of leaving you, that's a trauma that should be on the list as well.
A very few moms find the downside of parenting to be more than they can handle. But for those of us who are not completely self-centered, the good and the bad even out , and at the end of the day it is all worth it. What surprised you the most about being a parent?

Every thing has to be exactly the same. he is not much better now, but a little but. I remember when our 8 year old was 2, I could not buy him new shoes, he wanted only his old shoes, they were his. The baby (or not so baby anymore) is particular about a much more broad array of things. He still uses his baby blanket for naps. When we buy shoes, they have to be the same, unless he picks for himself. Everyone has to sit in the same chair as usuall, and he can only get his hair cut next to the shower by Daddy. I think it is cute, but it can be a pain. I like that he knows what he wants.
