Madeleine McCann's mother to be named a suspect

Filed under: Just For Moms, Preschoolers, Just For Dads, Media

Last night, as my husband and I watched the news, I saw the tail end of a report concerning Madeleine McCann's parents. Madeleine is the little girl who disappeared in Portugal last May after being left alone with her siblings in a holiday apartment while her parents ate dinner in a nearby restaurant. Madeline's mother, Kate, was questioned again by police yesterday and there was speculation that new evidence would result in her being named a suspect.

That sounded too incredible to me, but according to family spokeswoman, Justine McGuinness, that is exactly what is happening. She says the police found the little girl's blood in a vehicle the family rented 25 days after her disappearance. Philomena McCann, Madeline's aunt, says, "They are suggesting that Kate has in some way accidentally killed Madeleine, then kept her body, then got rid of it."

I guess anything is possible, but I find it hard to comprehend. The Portuguese police have made all kinds of mistakes in the handling of this case and I hope this is another one.
