Healthy lunch boxes not so healthy
Categories: Health & Safety
The California Department of Public Health, in an effort to convince kids to eat healthy meals, has passed out more than 50,000 lunch boxes featuring slogans such as "Eat Fruits & Vegetables and Be Active". Catchy, eh? The problem is, the lunch boxes themselves are not so healthy. Like, it seems, just about everything these days, the lunch boxes contain excessive levels of lead. So, the CDPH is asking consumers not to use them."CDPH will no longer use lunch boxes until such time as we are assured that every lunch box is safe. In addition to lunch boxes, we are assessing all of our health promotion items to ensure that they are safe," said Dr. Mark Horton, director of the CDPH. "We are urging Californians to not use these lunch boxes and keep them away from infants and young children."
Although only the green lunchboxes have tested positive for lead, the CDPH is recommending that ny of the lunchboxes they've given out be disposed of. Consumers can return them to the place where they got them or take them to a household hazardous waste collection facility.
