17 lb baby!
Categories: Newborns, Pregnancy & birth, Media
When the newborn Nadia was placed on the scale, she broke not only a family record, but a Guinness World one: the C-section baby weighed in at a whopping 17.1 lbs!
It's almost as if Nadia knew from the start she'd have to do something to make her birth stand out from those of her eleven older siblings'.
"We were all simply in shock," said Nadia's mother, Tatyana Barabanova, 43. "He (the father) couldn't say a thing -- he just stood there blinking."
The Russian mother said her pregnancy diet consisted of potatoes, noodles, and tomatoes and none of her other children were this large. So far there has been no explanation why Nadia came out the size of a six- or seven-month-old.
I was always instructed not to lift anything heavier than the baby after my C-sections. For this mom, that would mean pouring a little bit of dog food out of the 25 lb bag before picking it up! Ack!

I was shocked by the "17.1 lbs", but then stunned by the part about "11 siblings". I'll let you know when I start blinking again.

My daughter did not way 17 pounds until she was almost a year old.
On the other hand, my son was 9 lb 6 oz and seemed sooo much bigger than my daughter 7 lb 2 oz at birth. I cannot imagine 17 pounds! Wow!

When I showed my son, he thought Nadia looked hungry and the other little baby looked worried....17.1 is amazing.....we had a 12lb'er in our family....but 17...that is outstanding! Best of luck to them....

MANNNNNNN that was a HUGE BABY! No wonder she had to have a C-section! that's the biggest baby I have ever seen in my life! How did that baby get that big in her stomach? I bet Nadia has very, very, very, very, very heavy baby! I hope that she will be a healthy baby in the end no matter how much is weighs!

Well, I am happy to hear that both mom and baby are doing fine. May God bless Nadia with many years of health and happiness.
The weight is shocking, but if she is healthy, that's all that should concern the family.

C-section or not.. all of the mothers out there...
how did you feel close to delivery carrying a 6-9 pound baby?
Try carrying a 17.1 pound baby instead!
I can't even begin to comprehend how that would feel..my brain shut off...it doens't want to think about it!
Healthy baby, healthy mother! God Bless the family!
