The Wiggles minus Greg

Kids who watch Blue Clues today probably have no idea that there used to be a guy named Steve on that show. When Steve left the show in 2002, I couldn't imagine that things would ever be the same for Blue and the gang. But the thing about little kids is that they grow up and are replaced by new little kids who have no idea and couldn't care less how things used to be. As far as I can tell, Blues Clues is doing just fine without Steve. Now the Wiggles are in the same position, losing yellow-shirted Greg Page due to a chronic illness that leaves him weak and susceptible to fainting spells. His replacement is Sam Moran, who makes his debut on the Wiggles' just-released album, Getting Strong.
Deciding to keep the Big Red Car going without Greg was something the four guys didn't have to ponder for long. "We did do some soul-searching and discussions, but it didn't last very long," red Wiggle Murray Cook said. "The three of us were pretty keen to continue. But it was really planned out how we would go about it."
"The way we really went about it was we wanted to be honest with people and just tell them what happened. That Greg was sick and couldn't continue and that Sam was the new Wiggle," Cook said. "And I think if you're honest with your audience they're fairly accepting, really."
Not to diminish Page's role in the hugely popular group, but I suspect the change will be harder for the guys in the band than for the kids who love them.

Debra Hamel said...It seems incredible to me now, but growing up I had a hard time distinguishing between the two Darrens on Bewitched. I expect most kids won't be bothered by the Greg switch.
I'm just glad Anthony's not the one being swapped out: THAT would bother me :)
