Product Recall: Gymboree Toy Pirate Sword
Categories: Shopping and recalls
Is your kid planning to be a pirate for Halloween? Might want to check the sword and make sure it's not this one. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Gymboree have announced a recall of about 6,000 Toy Pirate Swords due to a laceration hazard - if the sword should break, a sharp point could result.
Gymboree has received 11 reports of this happening, but so far no injuries have been reported. The recall involves the sword pictured here, which has SKU number 140025491-GYS049 printed on the price tag above the bar code. The plastic sword measures about 19 inches long and has a gold-colored handle and a gray plastic blade. The sword was sold through the Gymboree website and stores across the nation from August 2007 through September 2007 for between $12 and $15.
If your little pirate has this sword, you should immediately take it and return it to any Gymboree store for a full refund. You can contact Gymboree for more information or instructions for returning the sword by mail at (877) 449-6932 between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. PT Monday through Friday and between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. PT Saturday, or visit their Web site.
Seriously, shouldn't they be checking this stuff before they put it on the shelves?

Shouldn't they be checking what? Isn't it common sense that if a toy breaks, it might have a sharp edge which could hurt someone?? Seriously, if your kid breaks a toy, take it away from them... but I honestly don't understand why they should have to put a recall out on this.

smrfchic beat me to it. IF it breaks, the edge COULD be sharp? Well, yeah...just like every other solid object that breaks. These recalls are starting to make my brain hurt.

I saw a little boy. about 5/6 years old playing on the slides and climbers at the local park this past summer while carrying one of these.
The thing with the recalls is that they are trying to protect the people out there that have NO common sense in the first place. Myself. Let them take themselves and their kids out of the gene pool. I just dont want my kid hurt in the process.
