Woman conceives twice in one month
Just imagine: you finally hear back from the doctor, and it's the confirmation you've been waiting for -- hooray, you're pregnant! Then, two weeks later -- hooray, you're pregnant! Again!
Huh? You thought it was impossible, but in fact, it's just very unlikely. As Roger pointed out last month, it turns out women can conceive again even if they're already pregnant -- but the odds are about a million to one.
That's what happened to Beverley Robson, a 32-year-old woman who recently gave birth to sisters Leah and Lara -- who, even though they were born on the same day, technically aren't twins. Beverley's body was supposed to stop ovulating after she conceived, but, due to a phenomenon called "superfetation," it didn't.
Normally when this kind of dual pregnancy occurs, the second baby dies, so it's no surprise that after Lara was not only conceived, but actually born, Beverley started calling the sisters her "miracle babies."

molly said...What I don't understand is how this gets diagnosed? How do the doctors know there was this 2 week delay in conception (as opposed to just 1 twin that's bigger than the other)? (I believe them, but am just curious)
