Do your children keep their mittens on?

My family just returned from our weekend park rendezvous, where Wito prefers running around the playground perimeter (as opposed to on the playground). As we walked home on this chilly and foggy day, Wito grabbed my hand and his little fingers felt like icicles.I've been looking for mittens for Wito, and I've found unique ones on Etsy made of felted wool sweaters. However, will he keep them on his hands? Are little ones able to pick up objects and explore with mittens on? If not, do you have any suggestions for other options (like regular gloves)?
If we do decide on mittens, I'll definitely be buying these cute ones with the fleece lining. (Or maybe these. Or these.)

as a little skier (my mt. buds do the same) my mom always bought me the mittens with the string that attaches the two and runs thru the coat/jacket/sweater. that way they don't get lost if they do come off, and they can take them on/off w/o worry! for the cuties you are checking out you could just sew on some cute yarn or ribbon!

Have you seen the mittens that have the flaps that pull the mitten part back? Underneath that, there are gloves that come up to the first knuckle, leaving the fingers bare. That way, when your kids need their fingers, they can use them, but when they get cold, they can cover them back up. I had a pair for myself and they're quite nice.
