Dilley sextuplets in high school
Filed under: Teens, Activities: Babies, In The News, Day Care & Education
When my oldest started high school this fall, it was sad and exciting at the same time. My baby! High school!
But I didn't have too much time to be melancholy or fret about the passage of time because I have other kids and opted to save the BIG bucket bawling for when the last of the litter heads off.
Keith and Becki Dilley don't have that luxury, though. Part what made them a household name in the United States, raising sextuplets, means their child hit major milestones like starting high school or college, at the same time. This fall, Adrian, Claire, Quinn, Ian, Brenna, and Julian became high school freshman, leaving their house strangely silent a lot of the time.
"Keith and I find ourselves alone a lot," Becki said. "We come home, it's like, 'Where is everybody?' And I say, 'Well, they're not expected home till 11:30 or so. 'You mean we're like..... by ourselves?'"
I'd really be interested in a book about what life with 6 teenagers the same age is like. I can't imagine the hormone and teenage angst, drama, and stress those parents must deal with on a daily basis, and I think I could learn a lot from the Dilleys.

As the youth minister at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where the Dilley’s attend, I feel the need to share the REAL Dilley family with those who have “Followed them Since Birth.” I just wish that reporters, and the world could see, not only in the Dilley family, but in ALL people, the goodness and the dignity of each and every human! A few things that National News may never express about this amazing family:
•How about that this loving couple gave LIFE to 6 amazing children and did not consider what our culture suggests, to “reduce” or abort. But rather they put their faith in God and trusted that HIS will would be done.
•Keith’s humility in all things and his desire to put FIRST his beautiful bride and their children.
•Becki’s compassion for her family and for others, her amazing creativity and insight, and her commitment to her husband.
•That all 6 children are involved in a new group at their public high school that is standing up to tell their peers that it’s OK not to drink, smoke, or do other drugs!
•They’ve joined with some friends to form a group that prays in the morning before classes in their public school cafeteria.
•They are involved in service projects; working with our friends with special needs, cleaning the church, helping at the crisis shelter, baking for the bake sale, and any other project that I may propose!
•The kids offer to be alter servers at the 7 am Mass on Sundays (how many teens will wake up at 6 am on a weekend?!?!)
•Or how about that six 14 year olds from small town Indiana can have cameras follow them for a whole day, have paid trips to New York, where they star on a national show (twice in 2 months) all of this without causing unnecessary jealousy in their peers or becoming prideful and haughty.
This family is not atypical because 6 children were born at once - that is simply what makes them unique. I am proud to report that they are “atypical” because their values and actions are based on loving and serving a God who created us!

It's like the line in that Jacko song: "if you can't feed your baby, then don't have a baby." But just because I feel that way doesn't mean that I don't like kids. I do like them, far away and quiet! lol!

I have 17,13 and just restarted the family with a 6 month old (three girls) just two teens are crazy some days let alone 6 at once. I wish them the best of luck. The kids, I mean teenagers look great. Enjoy your free time as well. It does come in handy. You deserve it. Happy Holidays to your family.

There are many reasons...maybe they don't have the patience, have a bad temper, or are too selfish. There are more people than you think that are not fans of children, but society brands those people as strange or broken so most people succumb to the pressure of society, have kids and then treat them like SHIT and abuse them. WHICH WOULD YOU PREFER? Someone to realize they aren't a kid person and not have kids OR have kids due to societal pressures and ruin their lives due to abuse and neglect???? Personally I know I don't have the patience for babies....so when the time comes I would like to adopt older children. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT?????? This is a free society(kind of) and everyone has the right to their own beliefs!!

magicprincess707 said...I agree with you... not everyone is a "kid person." Personally, I have mixed feelings about kids right now. Being a young career woman (I'm 25) I don't mind being around kids, but just not for long periods of times. If a young child is quiet and behaving, then that's fine with me, but in the most part I try not to get myself in situations where I am around loud, noisey and undiciplined kids who are running around and creating havock. Those type of kids just make me unconfortable, and it should really be their parents to blame for not controlling and diciplining their kids. Control your kids!!! When I was little, me and my brother never ran freely around a store or restaraunt, jumping on tables and throwing things at everyone. Sure, we might have did some of that stuff at home, but out in public we were taught to have better manners then that. This is the main reason I am choosing to wait until I am at least 35 before i start to have kids.

Now the boys are (twins) 21, 20, 19, 18, and almost 16. There's always enough testosterone in here to sink a battleship...still! And I only have the 2 youngest left at home. Hats off to the Dilley Parents!
