The new Hollywood sex symbol: moms

Twenty years ago, it seems that women in Hollywood were putting off having children as long as possible. Big stars like Madonna and Susan Sarandon were nearly 40-years-old before they had their first child. Motherhood and a Hollywood career didn't really seem to go together. But today, young Hollywood women seem to have decided that they can have it all - a successful career and a family.
While Demi Moore can probably be credited with changing the way we look at pregnant women with her sexy 2006 Harper's Bazaar cover, I think it was Reese Witherspoon who proved that motherhood need not hinder a Hollywood career. When her career was just beginning to heat up, she married and became a mother at the age of 23. She then went on to win an Oscar for her performance in Walk the Line.
"I think it's pro feminist," said E! online gossip columnist Ted Casablanca. "It's all about choice. It's taking the old mold and breaking it. It's saying, 'I will not be defined by my womb.' It's saying, 'I can have a dynamic career and be a dynamic mom at the same time,' rather than saying, 'I have to choose between the two.'"
Since then, more and more women in Hollywood are becoming mothers while still in their 20's. In the case of 26-year-old Christina Aguilera, being pregnant has actually helped her image. The former 'dirty' girl is now the angelic mother-to-be and her bad press has all but disappeared. But others, like newly pregnant 26-year-old Jessica Alba, don't need the image boost that seems to follow a pregnancy announcement. Will she still be considered sexy when she's a mother?
Village Voice gossip columnist Michael Musto thinks so. "The public has gone beyond the Madonna-whore syndrome, where once somebody has given birth, they're not considered sexy anymore," he says. "People are now more willing to embrace the idea of literally a hot mama. And that's what I think she'll be."
Who's the sexiest celebrity mom?

Not 1992 and definitely NOT 2006. Look it up!

L said...Wow, Bill Doyle...it's painfully obvious that you hate women AND you haven't had a date with a real woman in years. And with that attitude, you never will.
It takes two to become pregnant, pal...always did and always will. So why all the vitriol against pregnant women, regardless of their marriage status?
Do yourself a favor and shut your mouth before you utter more stupid garbage...

However, there are so many celebs who use their kids like fashion accessories, dangle them like handbags, and then get incensed when paparazzi swarm in. Wasn't that their intention in the first place: to use the offspring as publicity bait?

La said...I think it's wrong to call them sluts, and as for them being able to afford nannies and us not being able to, look at the career they are in. It isn't a bad pic [Christina] to me. and most stars lose all of their baby weight, and Katie Holmes looks a whole lot better than she did before.

I have always believed that we should look closely at ourselves if we are being critical and negative about someone else because we are surely not happy with ourselves. There is never any excuse for judging other people.Period. Live and let live. When you are perfect you can judge others not before then. Which will be never.

I wrote and am still living my dreams and destiny,We gals have the power to do and be most anything we want, if having babies at 20,30.40 with your boyfriend is your bag. go for it, or boy toys, plastic surgery. ONLY YOU HAVE TO ANSWER TO THAT FACE IN THE MIRROR OF " WHY NOT", WHAT IF...

victoria said...omg.....i do not believe "you can have it all" unless of course you are very wealthy and like has been acknowledged you can afford a staff for your children!!!! i raised 2 children on my own and worked and tried to be a good mother........it was very difficult and emotionally it was draining........try as i may it was very hard to be 2 places at one time and i do believe that "my children" paid the cost of me being a single parent.......we never had enough money, daycare was expensive, i don't know how many accidents i almost got into racing to get one of the kids somewhere and ON TIME.... no, it wasn't fabulous and glad that part is over....but to me being a single mom in the "real world" was at best very tough and i think that it is sad that these women get props for being single moms, and can have it all.....i guess you can ....but with much help and unlimited resources.........and by the way i don't agree with the age.......you have children when YOU are ready .......much love to all women that try desparetly to parent well and alone...........

I think that moms should know and feel like they can do it all.... NO EXCUSES! Yes... these celebrity moms can hire nannies... more power to them... as for us normal people we can and have to hire help too, they just arn't as well paid as the celebrity nannies. ROCK ON MOMS AND KEEP BEING SUCCESSFUL!!!!! DON'T LET SOCIETY MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY!!!

I HAD all my kids by the time I was 25. the 2 that are disabled were born fine and one was 4 and the other 6 when they were diagnosed. They are my life and i wouldn't change anything about it. i wouldn't want a nanny. and my kids are the most caring and willing to help someone that needs it.

shannon said...this is a disgrace. skanky women in hollywood are trying to make something beautiful into something sexy, and it can't/shouldn't be done. why would you use an amazing gift like an unborn child as an accessory?? i have no problem with hollywood moms being proud of their motherhood but this is ridiculous.

We won a lawsuit. He was the fountain of Love in our family. More young mothers have these babies than old. The world is not perfect, everyone needs to get over themselves, including all the skinny bitches who think there better then everyone else, we all bleed the same. I stay home, my choice, I am lucky to have it. I give all the working moms credit, who wish they could stay home. I am affended by karens comments too. If you think your life is perfect its not, If you think your neighbors life is perfect think again.

Jan Bay said...I have noticed that more celebrities are taking a more "hands on" approach to child rearing and while sexy is fine, it seems to be taking a backseat to responsible parenting in most cases. I'm trying to think who may have set the stage for that....?
Oh, to be a celebrity mom with a housekeeper. I would not want a nanny, but a maid would be Heavenly.
