Personalized recall alerts available

Here's a great free service for parents trying to keep up with the trillion weekly recalls of toys and other child-related products. My Things offers two ways to stay on top of potentially hazardous items in your home.
The first is a list of recent recalls complete with photographs of the item. This is handy, but can be found elsewhere.
The second method is sheer genius. After setting up a (free!) account with My Things, you type in toys or items you own and are concerned about. If there is a recall of your product, My Things will send you an email alert.
It's obvious the Consumer Product Commission has not been able to keep up with dangerous products on the market. It's about time technology helps the average person keep informed.
Now if only there were scanning guns available to homeowners so they could just zap the UPC codes on tags to register their products instead of typing everything in.............

Will these personalised email alerts mean that ParentDish bloggers stop filling my feed-reader inbox with endless spammy alerts about recalls which apply to a country on the other side of the world from me?

Why sign up at a website that offers second hand information when you can go straight to the CPSC and sign up and get an email alert whenever there is a product recall.
When they send an email they list what is recalled and why and you can visit their site for more information on the product.
You can also search their site for previously recalled products. In my opinion they are the better choice for several reasons.
1) The information comes first hand, not second as it would from MyThings or any other site. I'm not saying that the website would give false information, I'm just of the opinion that it's better to recieve recall information from those that have done the recall.
2) Because they are the ones that would have the most information on any recalled product, and if you have any questions or concerns you can contact them.

Another mother and I also started a recall notification service at www.SmartToyChoice.com. This sight is more advanced than Mythings in that the service tracks your product number, purchase date and place of purchase - details you need to know to determine if your toy was really part of the recall - and these are details you may not have up to 6 years later when the toy is recalled and your child's little brother is now playing with the toy. Also at SmartToyChoice.com when you buy (or receive as a gift) a toy you can enter it in your account and immediately find out if it has already been recalled.

I use the Personafile product recall service. It not only sends me a notice if one of my products is recalled, I get cash back on all the products I buy.
