Hollywood marriages
Categories: Love & Sex, Celeb Parenting, Behaving Badly

Part of me likes to think that Hollywood marriages aren't even remotely the same thing as, say the marriage of two average, non-celebrity types like me and my husband. Those two concepts are like synonyms to me--they sound the same but have totally different meanings.
It's just possible that celebrities think the same thing. Today I read a glorious recap of the shortest-lived Hollywood marriages. It was pretty funny. Although there was a shorter-lived union among them, my favorite was Cher marrying Greg Allman. I can totally see the appeal. And I don't really care what Cher does, I think she's pretty cool.
Also on the list were other favorite Hollywood marriages of mine such as Nicholas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley and Britney Spears marrying her girlhood sweetheart. What was THAT all about? Clearly it was a sign of things to come.
Now, now you say, plenty of celebrities have managed to stay married for more normal amounts of time. Many celebrities indeed have tried to face down the odds and stay together despite the media's desperation that one of them cheat or whatever.
Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward are the perfect example of a hot Hollywood couple who managed to stick together for longer than most non-celebrity marriages last! I suppose when there are no children involved, a celebrity-mini-marriage break up is rather no harm, no foul.
But when kids are involved it can be just as sticky as if the couple'd been married for ages. Some would say that these quickie-marriages followed by even quicker divorces spits in the face of all that marriage stands for. Others would say that marriage is a joke anyway until anyone can marry anyone else. I can't really comment on that, but I will say that I'm glad my marriage, for better or worse, is not under the constant spotlight.
And as for Paul and Joanne? Well, all I can say to that is she got the last good one.
On a totatlly unrelated note: Paul Newman--is he the sexiest man ever--even now???????????

I think you mean homonyms, not synonyms. Homonyms are words that sound the same but mean different things. Synonyms are different words that mean the same thing.

Picky point, I know!
I do agree with you though: celebrity 'marriage' does very often seem like a different animal than what the rest of us do.
