Scared of Santa photos
Categories: Development, In The News, That's Entertainment
As a special gift to everyone, the Chicago Tribune puts together a gallery of Scared of Santa photographs from submissions sent by readers, because sometimes it's just nice to know that not just YOUR kid is the one who cries, pouts, whines, and is naughty.
Merry Christmas!

I'm a mother, grandmother, aunt and g. aunt. My niece wrote me that the older of her 2 young daughters was too frightened by Santa to even pose with him. In the photo that she sent me, the younger 9 month old was smiling happily. It doesn't worry me that the older 2 1/2 year old refuses to be photographed with Santa. To me, it just shows her greater intelligence in being able to discriminate and recognize extreme differences in people. The older one evidently assessed the situation and decided that the strange appearance of Santa in comparison to the rest of the men with whom she was acquainted did not suit her. My comment to my niece was "good for her that she's becoming wary of strangers."
Maybe next year, she'll feel comfortable enough for that photo. Perhaps, my niece will have explained why it's OK. She'll be older and by then can understand more fully about Santa and Christmas, and that it's OK if Mom and Dad approve.
