Nicole Richie fears pain of childbirth
Filed under: Your Pregnancy, Celeb Kids, Celeb Parents
According to this article, Nicole Richie is so scared of the pain of giving birth that she has consulted a hypnotist. Richie, whose child with Joel Madden is due later this month, is working on learning to "relax, stay calm and think positive thoughts as the big day approaches."I was pregnant a very long time ago, but I do not recall ever feeling afraid of the pain I would experience during the birth. I probably should have been, but I was also very young and ignorance sometimes really is bliss. I am glad I wasn't preoccupied with that reality as I think it would have marred the otherwise wonderful experience of being pregnant.
But if I were to find myself pregnant today, I think it would be a totally different story. Age has made me a wimp in many ways and let's face it, childbirth hurts. What about you? Were you overly worried about the pain of childbirth during your pregnancy? How did you deal with it?

The best advice I can give is to read, ask questions and prepare yourself the best you can.Try to eliminate the anxiety of the unknown by educating yourself. Focus on what is important...that beautiful baby.
My first was very hard..My doctor would only allow an epidural after a couple hours of active labor and extreme pain. Then the epidural was turned off while I was at 7-8 centimeters dilated so that I had no effects from it for the pushing stage...Since I pushed for almost 4 hours with no meds or epidural, with the threat of an emergency c-section looming, I do and always will consider that a natural birth. My second was the same way, but after my son was born naturally at 9lb 6oz..I did get a sympathetic look from my male OB..By the time my 3rd rolled around I was very prepared and thought I know what to expect..Again I was wrong, natural labor with forceps and a 10lb baby is IMPOSSIBLE to prepare for...For the women that look down on others that utilized modern medicine during childbirth. I say this: God created anesthesiologist for a reason, why not take advantage of what the good Lord gave!!

I had 3 epidurals and none of them worked- I have a some kind of blockage in my spine which prevents it from working so needless to say the c section was fun! They had to keep shooting me with meds- but even though I was scared to death the whole time and it did hurt people are right when they say:
IT IS THE EASIEST PAIN TO FORGET
I would do it all over again in a heartbeat

Traci said...Well, i have had 5 children. And i had pain med's with each one. If you can go without more power to you, But once i had the pain med's it was enjoyable to be in labor. Knowing i would have by baby soon. All my children were born healthy. The way i look at it we don't have tooth pulled without pain med's. why go though the pain of birth without it?

( how ironic) when i went to the hospital i had a difficult delivery due to hospital staff because they were mad because i didnt come in sooner. i think more people should deliver at home if you can.

cee said...i say stay home and have your child. have someone come in to help if you want. that is the best old fashioned way . have your family deliver it or have a midwife. i truly think that is the best.

All that silly stuff that started coming out in the last 15 years is ridiculous - underwater births, the doulas, the home births, the birthing chairs etc. Women need to go to the hospital where both are safe medically, and just choose: natural, pain shots, epidural - unless a C section is warrented. God bless that girl who had the section with no anestsia! (sp?) Anyway, all that "new age" birthing nonsense, along with the TV shows on now about these snobby, rich women having babies, like "A Baby Story" is best to stay away from. My daughter watched one few days ago (She's due with my grandson soon :) and I couldn't believe the snobbiness! Gals, have your babies at the hospital, safe in the care of those trained to care for any emergency and 99 of 100 OB nurses who care for you are as happy and excited for you as if they gave birth, and they give you the best of care both physically and emotionally.
