Twins unknowingly marry each other
Filed under: Adoption, Siblings, Weird But True
We've all heard those heartwarming stories of twins who were separated at birth finding each other again later in life. Torn apart by circumstance and fate and unaware of the other's existence, they are understandably overjoyed to find that missing piece of themselves. Except in this case. These two "separated at birth" twins discovered their unique bond at the worst possible time. After they married each other.
Lord Alton, a peer in the British House of Lords says, "They were never told that they were twins. They met later in life and felt an inevitable attraction, and the judge had to deal with the consequences of the marriage that they entered into and all the issues of their separation."
The court dealt with it by annulling the marriage. But can you imagine the "issues of separation" the formerly-married twins are dealing with?
Mo O'Reilly, the director of child placement for the British Association for Adoption and Fostering, says that while this situation is rare, it isn't completely unheard of. And that makes sense, considering the fact that many of us are attracted to someone who we find to be similar to ourselves. You just can't get more similar than a twin.

The other is tall, slender, fair complexion (right down to the freckles on face, arms, and legs) red hair (bordering on carrot red) and green eyes. When my son told me that these classmates were twins, my response was: "Are you sure that one wasn't held back in school?" No, they are twins, FRATERNAL twins!

Same height (6 ft), hair, eyes, face shape, big teeth, everything! In college, where they met, everyone thought they were twins. So I guess similarity does attract. Personally, I never found him all that attractive. . .

I can easily see them being drawn together soon after introductions. If nothing else as someone they enjoy hanging around with. Guess that puts some sanity on why we USED to get blood tests before marriage.

Also, if they were it could have been a "romantical coincidence" My Daughter and her first BF shared the same birthday, same year, same hospital. His Mother happened to be an Elementary friend of mine. We were only one room apart from eachother. I'm curious as to how they found out? Does anyone know that part of the story. Sad story really to think you have found your life partner and discover it's your twin. I feel for them both.

Cassie said...There was a story like this in the US once. The sad part was that each of them had thought they'd found the perfect mate and then they had to split up. It was just too much info.

Why didn't it read Twins adopted by different parents, at birth?"

The girl has delicate tiny features, blonde hair, blue eyes and she's 5'2. Her twin brother is 6'3, black hair & brown eyes, and very strong features. You would never even guess they are related.

So just because you have a birthdate in common doesnt mean you immediately are going to ask if you might be related. LOL By the way... just in case anyone wants to know... we were born in the same hospital too. But, our mothers never knew each other. LOL
