Pelosi Upgrades Cafeteria Proving Women Make World Better Place

Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Congress haven't been as productive as their constituents would like. Indeed, their approval ratings are in the low 20s, lower even than our unpopular President's. Nonetheless, my hat goes off to Nancy Pelosi and her noble efforts to reform Congress' cafeteria. In this past year, she was not able to get her bill to cover uninsured children passed, but she has taken the Congressional lunch menu from pizza and vanilla pudding to locally grown organic vegetables like bok choy and arugula and main courses like Chesapeake rockfish and cumin-scented leg of lamb. The taco bar is now the "Taqueria" and grilled foods are called "a la Plancha". Yes, there have been plenty of detractors complaining about the price increases and the dearth of jell-o, but come on people, you know that sounds so much better than "Taco Bar" and "Grilled" chicken. She's also made the cafeteria green-friendly, with biodegradable utensils and an elaborate system for diners to dispose of their trash for recycling. Well I say, good for her!! And I'm not being sarcastic. If my husband ran our home, we'd be eating the same four dishes over and over off of mis-matched, chipped plates in an outdated kitchen. Thanks to the woman in his life, he eats home-cooked organic meals served on nice dishes in a beautiful, clean kitchen with stainless appliances and dark hardwood floors. Thankfully, he knows how lucky he is. And after 9 years of marriage, he's been sufficiently accustomed to the "good life" that even he says he could not go back to his bachelor way of life or even imagine how he managed to live without me. Yes, men need us because life is in the details and as Nancy Pelosi proved, life (and lunch) are better when we are in charge – I'm sure she'll get around to those uninsured kids soon enough. In the meantime, pass the caramel lattes and biscotti.

And the bill did pass--with strong bipartisan support--in both the House and the Senate. Yet, unfortunately, President Bush vetoed this bill which would have provided health care to 10 million American children--not once, but twice!
