Sentimental Valentine's Day memories

Filed under: Activities: Babies, Nutrition: Health, Day Care & Education

Today after I picked up my son, I had to run into the store to pick up a few things on the way home. All of the Valentine's decorations and candy are everywhere, and I was a little sad that my son's days of having Valentine's celebrations and class parties was over. While I was reflecting, he asked me the strangest question. He wanted to know if I would make ice cream cone cakes for him and his friends for Valentine's Day. I asked him why he wanted those and he said all of his friends were talking today at lunch about how they all used to have class parties in elementary school and how fun it was when their moms would bring treats and favors to the party. So, this group of 14 and 15-year-old kids decided to have their own class party over lunch on Valentine's Day.

Out of everything I have done over the years, my son remembers the ice cream cone cakes. Those are made with flat bottom ice cream cones that you pour cake batter into and bake like cupcakes, and then frost to look like an ice cream cone.

I will admit that I was touched that he remembered my efforts over the years. I'm not quite sure if he remembers them as fondly as he describes or if he was playing his mom's sentimental side a little, but it worked. I will definitely be making ice cream cakes for Valentine's Day.

Are you planning anything creative or crafty for your child's Valentine's party? I no longer get to be the class mom, so I must live vicariously through all of you.
