Surprise pregnancy side effects
Filed under: Just For Moms, Your Pregnancy
I have two friends who are currently pregnant. Both of them are expecting their third child are due in about eight weeks. One complains mostly of the standard aches and pains associated with carrying around a child inside of you and has found this pregnancy to be very much like her first two. The other friend, however, is experiencing some brand new stuff.
One thing in particular that is making her life miserable these days is her belly button. She says it is extremely sensitive and feels like an open sore. And as if a raw belly button wasn't bad enough, hers is also sticking way out there, where it is vulnerable to getting scraped up against things. Ow ow ow.
You would think that by pregnancy number three, there would be little in the way of surprises. But she didn't have the belly button thing with her first two children and the whole experience has thrown her a bit. What about you? Did you develop brand new and exciting side effects with each pregnancy? Any advice on the belly button thing?

Gwen said...Lol, when I was pregnant I couldn't stand my bellybutton rubbing against anything. I took to putting a band aid over it all the time.

It stayed that same way after the babies were born and now almost 2 years later, I have finally gotten it corrected. It's so nice to have my belly button back to "normal", not to mention having to worry about it possibly getting worse. I would suggest that your friend talk to her doctor. She probably has a hernia.

Sandyone said...A hernia, really? Youch. My bellybutton area is really sensitive this time around, too. On my sixth trip, I'm finding that some of the side effects are coming sooner. Heartburn is my constant companion, even though I'm only in my 5th (6th?) month. The bellybutton thing I thought was because a couple of my kids just love to rub that smooth skin...STOP THAT!!!!!!!!!!! Sciatica surprised me in my fifth pregnancy...sure hate that one!
Advice on bellybutton? Tell the kids to keep their cotton-pickin hands off of it! Could try a 3x3 gauze pad, but the tape might cause more problems. I just try to protect that area.

My stomach felt like it was stretched as far as it would go & my belly button hurt. It did pop out a bit, but I don't think as much as your friends has. I delivered 5 weeks early & had a 7.5lb daughter. The last 3 or 4 weeks, I would just sit & cry all evening from the pain. It was horrible. Oh & in case anyone was wondering my first was 6 weeks early & 5.3lbs so she was pretty healthy :)
