Patrick Swayze has cancer

Yes, dear readers--it's true. As you may already know, Patrick Swayze, star of such super hit films as Ghost and the now classic Dirty Dancing is suffering from pancreatic cancer. Those diagnosed with the illness are rarely given more than 6-9 months to live.

Now, you may say: "Wait just a minute here--what does this have to do with parenting or kids and whatnot?" Well, my answer to you is this. You KNOW you know all the words to "She's Like the Wind." And don't tell me you didn't have just a teensy little crush on the Swayzemaster when in those tight black jeans when he was Johnny Castle. Don't even bother trying to deny it. I know whenever DD hits the rotation on TBS or wherever you're right there tuning in with me.

And men, remember this: Swayze made dancing cool again for guys.

This is not to mention how phrases like "Nobody puts baby in a corner" have permeated our culture. I know someone, for example, whose baby has a onesie with that phrase on it. Now that's just clever,

When I was a kid I loved Dirty Dancing the way kids now love High School Musical. We made up dances to all the songs on the soundtrack. We saw the live tour. And we loved--scratch that, still love, always will love--Patrick Swayze.

And, just for the record? I think the Swayzemaster could kick Zack Efron's butt.

I was really hoping that this wasn't true when I saw it this morning. Now I hope that he's one of the few who beats the odds.

Cancer "terms" are not finite. My husband was given 2 weeks to 6 months and now... almost 9-years later. he is doing damn well... working, driving and doing more than the average male.... but at the same time he is doing major treatment on a monthl basis. Hope that Patrick is able to beat this!

DD rocks. I have such fond memories of it.

I hope all the tabloids are wrong that he has days to live.

I'm off to TIVO DD because I need a little DD ...

His doctors are saying all the tabloids are wrong and exaggerating and they don't know where they got that info, and that Swayze is responding well to treatment.

I should be ashamed to say I can't place that song at all, much less remember any lyrics. Though I must agree; Patrick would make Zafron cry like the little girl he looks like :)

The news story (as opposed to tabloid story) that I just read said the 1 year survival rate is around 20% for pancreatic cancer patients. The 5 year outlook is much, much worse (around 4%). I'm so sorry to hear this. I adore Patrick Swayze and wish him and his family peace and the best of luck with his treatment.

I have prostate cancer - stage 4 - incurable.
I am a 73 year old male.
I am taking B-17 and hydrazine sulfate.
I will be cancer free in 4 months.

Dear Mr. Swayze, please be encouraged. I was diagnosed with hep c last year. My brother-in-law died the same year of cirrhosis of the liver because of this disease. My doctor told me this week my body has rejected the disease. The scripture tells us that "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us...." (Romans 5:8) What is easier for Christ to say, "your sins are forgiven or rise from your sick bed and be healed?" Believe in Him and be healed Brother.

I too believe that the Lord will heal him. I pray for him all the time. I know if he believes in Gods word he will raise up from his sick bed and beat the odds. So far he has beaten the odds. He is one of Gods children and I would hate to see him
die. But if he does that means that God wanted him up in Heaven. Patrick Swayze has truly been a positive influence in my life.

The news is good this a.m. for Patrick Swayze! I am so thrilled. He will beat this. I will look forward to all the future projects he will do. Patrick has been one of my favorites forever. God Bless him and his family for a speedy recovery.

My prayers go out to you. I know of a man who has the same type of cancer, and has been cured of it. I have watched Dirty Dancing five times, and I never watched a movie more than once. It's a great story line, but your dancing was fantastic. I've seen Ghost also, which was also a great movie. You have shown that your not afraid of your feminine side, while still maintaining your masculiny. Keep fighting, you have enriched my life plus many others.

I spent 22 years in The U.S. Army. Retired in 2002. I survived many things, cancer twice.

In Oct 2005 I was told I had pancreatic cancer, Oct 25th I had my operation I am writing this today. Yes there is hope and always a chance. I was treated at the Naval Medical center in San Diego.

I feel I should do something to help others. What is there that I can do

Dear Patrick, I believe that the LORD will heal you of this. The world is not ready to be without you. Keep having faith that you will be healed and you will. No negatives thoughts! I'm just one of the millions of girls who look up to you and love you. When I heard of the cancer I almost cried. The thought of you gone hurt me deeply so I pray for you all the time. Patrick, Have faith if the Lord and you will be healed. So far you are beating the odds. I'll keep praying and knowing that you will walk away from this.
