Aunt Jemima pancake mixes recalled
Filed under: Health & Safety: Babies, Nutrition: Health, In The News, Shopping and recalls
Pancakes are a hit at our house. I wish I could say I was the kind of mom that makes them from scratch. I'm not, and Aunt Jemima is one of our favorite brands. In fact, I just made pancakes for dinner last week when my husband was working late. So imagine my dismay to find out that the box I used -- along with another brand new one in my cupboard -- has been recalled due to salmonella fears.
My kids didn't get sick and no instances of illness have been reported, thank goodness. But if you've got Aunt Jemima Pancake and Waffle Mix in Original, Original Complete, and Buttermilk Complete with a use by date of February 8, 2009 to February 16, 2009, you can return them to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.
Anyone else tired of food recalls? I know I am.

Marcia said...Yes! Why can't we go back to the days of 'Oh there's food we like, let's buy it!' or 'Hey! There's a toy my son/daughter would love! I'll get that!' instead of now where it's 'Is that recalled? Is that safe for my family?'
It's pretty ridiculous the amount of things being recalled in the last year. I think the only 100% 'safe' things are organic and I hardly ever buy organic because of the prices.

Laura said...but still.. I'll never understand why someone can't make them from scratch. I've done both and find that even from scratch takes me the same amount of time! You throw some dry ingredients in a bowl, add some wet ones and voila! pancakes! All the box kind give you is the dry ingredients already mixed in.. whoohoo?

I try to avoid anything that requires me to add milk and eggs, because these are expensive (I buy organic to avoid chemicals, hormones, etc). It takes literally 30 seconds to make pancakes out of a box - and it takes me that long to separate the yolk from the white while mixing things from scratch (I'm allergic to them).
