Kimberly Quaid and mother's intuition
Filed under: Babies, Celeb Kids, Celeb Parents
Around the very time her newborn babies were struggling for survival in the hospital after accidentally being overdosed with Heparin, Kimberly Quaid shared on 60 Minutes that miles away at home, she felt something was very, very wrong with her children.
"I just had this horrible feeling come over me, and I felt like the babies were passing. I just had this feeling of dread."
So strong was her feeling, that she called the hospital just to be sure everything was okay, and even though she was assured everything was fine, Quaid jotted down a note: 9 PM SOMETHING HAPPENED TO BABIES!
She wouldn't learn about the dosage blunder until the next morning when she and her husband visited the babies at their usual time.
Some research has even hinted that that mother's intuition can start before even giving birth. Woman with no gender preference for their unborn child were able to correctly choose what the sex of their baby was going to be with a 70% accuracy rate.
Sometimes I just know things about my kids, but it is usually right after an unusual length of silence. Every mom knows Quiet = Something Bad Going On.
Have you ever experienced mother's intuition?

SKL said...Yes, and I've also experienced it with other close people such as my baby sister. I burst into tears for no apparent reason one morning, listening to a song that I really liked that made me think of my kid sister. Later I found out that at that very moment, my sister was feeling devastated at the sudden, totally unexpected break in her engagement. This is just one example. A woman's intuition is a type of real knowledge that isn't understood/recognized in today's world because modern science is male-centered.

Sabrina said...I experience it quite often with my DS who is sick and has a rare disease. Doctors poo-poo me a lot, and I'm always right that something's wrong. My mother *still* knows when something is going terribly wrong with me and my family, and we live across the US from her!

Judy said...Well, I knew the sex of all 3 of my children before they were born (or with the 3rd, before his ultrasound - he was the only one where we found out ahead of time).
I've also had other little moments - always waking up immediately *before* my nursling did. I do definitely believe in mother's intuition.

Leslie said...It's a little scary. I had a very strong feeling my first was a girl, and she was. With my second, I had a very strong feeling it was a boy, and that there was going to be something wrong with him. He was born perfectly healthy 11 months ago, but I am still waiting for something to happen. Every time he gets sick, or is the tiniest bit late reaching a milestone, or even makes a funny hand gesture, I think - Is this it? I wonder if I will still be waiting for the proverbial bomb to drop when he goes off to college.

Susan said...There is nothing much stronger than a mother's intuition, especially for those of us not afraid of using it. A great book I found on intuition is called Intuitive Healing by Dr. Judith Orloff who is both a psychiatrist and an intuitive empath. (what a combination) After reading this book, I didn't feel silly when I had a strong feeling about my children and their safety, I just act on it. I has never led me wrong.

Karen said...Every time I have ignored my intuition regarding my children, or I let someone else tell me that I was wrong about my children...I have regretted it.
I refuse to ignore that little something from here on out!
