Don't forget to say goodbye
Categories: Babies, Just For Dads, Safety, In The News
Every morning, Kevin Roy would say goodbye to his one-year-old son Koby and give him a kiss. Yesterday, however, he forgot. Worried that that might just be the day that something happened, Roy pulled back into his driveway to make sure he said goodbye. It turns out, that was a good thing."I just wanted to tell him I loved him before I left," Roy said. "I pulled up to the end of the driveway and thought, 'I want to go in and tell him bye,' because I normally do. It's just something I do on a daily basis, so I decided to go back in." When he got back inside the house, he found it filled with smoke.
Roy and his fiancee, Ashley Swingley, fought their way to the boy's smoke-filled bedroom and managed to find him. "I couldn't even see into his room, and I just grabbed him and ran outside," said Swingley. The three made it to safety, but the house was a total loss. Koby's first birthday party was going to be held at the house this coming weekend, but I guess that won't be happening.
I'd say, however, that the whole family already got the best gift of all -- the gift of life. I'm glad Kevin Roy decided to go back for that kiss.

Wow. Someone once told me he always says "I love you" before he leaves them or hangs up the phone because he wants to be sure that the last thing he says to people is important.

@ Cathy - It is. I have a friend who always tells me "drive safely" when I leave. It isn't wasted. I feel some responsibility to be careful because I know she'd feel so badly if something happened to me on that drive.
I feel horrible if I forget to tell my boys goodbye as they go to school. I've had to yell it at the building from inside my car before, because not saying it wasn't a choice for me. They're simple words, but life is risky, so it's best to say them whenever you can.
