Ten year old tries to rob store with a rock
Categories: Teens & tweens, Development, In the news
From the What Were They Thinking?! files comes this story out of Franklin Tennessee.
Much like the three little pigs, a ten-year-old girl decided it was time to make her own way in the world.
Only instead telling her parents her plan and building a house out of bricks or sticks, she ran away one night after her parents were asleep.
The girl set out to seek her fortune at a nearby convenience store around midnight, pulling out a baseball sized rock she used to hit the clerk in the chest while demanding money from the cash register.
The clerk was so stunned by the surprise attack, she had to repeat her demands three times before he gathered his wits enough to tell her to leave, at which point she got scared and fled.
The clerk, who was no big bad wolf, called the police out of concern that a girl that young was out alone that late at night.
According to police, the girl appears to be well taken care of and has a stable home life. Speculation is that she'll be grounded until she's sixty and has hair growing from her chinny chin chin for this little stunt.

I suspect she picked up one of those criminal rebel pet rocks, who subsequently convinced her to rob the 7-11 for some smokes and whiskey.

If that girl came was well cared for and came from a stable home, then our effectiveness as good parents seems pretty random. I mean, Dang....that's a pretty nasty thing for even an adult to do.

My grand daughters pulled a similar stunt. tried to shake down the bank which was next door to their house. When the teller received the note, she called the mom. Now that I think about it, could my daughter have set up the whole escapade? LOL Tom

Shear boredom, spoiled, no challenge, as the child apparently has all she needs and more, but either was going to impress her peers at school or bullies that may be tormenting her, and wanted to show she's not a push over, or most importantly, she has a problem and her parents, teachers or peers weren't listening. For a child coming from a well rounded home, something traumatic causes them to act in this way.

She must be one of those children that dont get their asses whooped. If she had this would not be a story.

It's not her fault! We need more rock control laws. It's about time we outlaw rocks. When rocks are out lawed, only out laws will have rocks.

This is why I advocate corporal punishment. It is one thing to be open minded but quite another to let children that depend on you to run amok. I recommend caning both the girl and her parents.
