Drunk mom tries to pick up kid
Filed under: Just For Moms, Toddlers Preschoolers, Preschoolers, Alcohol & Drugs
A Reno, Nevada woman showed up at her daughter's preschool "grossly intoxicated" and demanded her daughter. When school officials refused to release the girl to the woman, she went on a rampage, smashing a window with a brick and assaulting the school staff. The police were called and the woman was arrested. The child was later released to her father.Sadly, sometimes our children's caregivers have to face situations like this. I don't know that I'll ever understand why a parent would allow themselves to get wasted when they know they're going to taking care of (let alone picking up) their kid. I mean, I like good beer and wine as much as the next guy, and I see nothing wrong with having one or two, even while watching your kids, but one must avoid becoming impaired.
Of course, the real victim here is the kid who loses her mom in all this. I hope that perhaps a bit of time cooling off -- and sobering up -- will give this mother a chance to realize what's really important.

Wendy said...All nasty comments and political opinions aside, was her daughter at preschool so she would have time to be a barfly? Is this done daily? And that day, did she just have a bit more than usual? Makes you wonder if anything else happens behind closed doors. I hope CYS takes this one seriously. And the file doesn't just get put on someones desk....has happened before...will happen again!!!

Parissa said...So what if she was? I had difficulties during the years my children were little ~ like most people: busy schedules; money woes; job loss; overstepping in-laws; unexpected illnesses and other such issues that taxed one's endurance; etc. ~ but I can assure you I didn't 'drink' myself into oblivian over them ~ nor did I ever show up at my daughter's school dead drunk and become so disruptive that the police had to be called!

When you are a parent you have responsbilities to someone besides yourself and your childs needs should come before your own. There are much better ways to deal with stress than to drink. And I agree 100% with Gil, she could have killed an innocent person or family on her drive to the preschool. She needs helps..

This woman's actions do nothing more than demonstrate she has a disease and needs help. I am not making any excuses for her nor am I excusing her actions. The simple fact is she has a problem and her family needs to get her into a program.

No matter how often she sobers up she will always be a drunk. Booze comes before logic or child or family. TAKE THE KID AWAY FROM THIS SCREWED UP MENTAL CASE and stop the cycle of abuse. Until the child agencies wake up and pull these poor kids away from these abusing psychos kids lives will be ruined waiting for the drunks to sober up. THEY DONT AND WONT UNTIL FORCED
INTO IT. THEY LOVE THE JUICE MORE THAN ANYONE OR ANYTHING! Stick that woman in jail now! Get the kid into therapy and let the mother know if she doesnt get into treatment and stop drinking she will lose her kid. Or would you rather wait for this selfish psycho to run a kid over on the road or throw a brick at her kid. That kind of rage while drunk is an example of what the poor child deals with in private daily. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MILD DRUNK. THEY ARE ALL BULLIES, WHO ARE MISERABLE , NASTY AND VISCIOUS WHEN THEY DONT GET WHAT THEY WANT WHICH IS USUALLY THE MAGIC COUPLE- ATTENTION AND MORE BOOZE!!!

Elaine said...I feel very sorry for this little girl. When I was little I was put in day care and preschool and I know my parents drank. However, thankfully I normally lived within walking distance to the buildings and my mother never did anything this stupid. But the mother has no reason having children if this is what she is going to do.
And to Niskydance0708-a troubled mother under stress doesn't get massively drunk and then pick up her child from school like that. The adults were trying to keep the child safe and the drunken mother went crazy and had to be arrested. Sounds kind of stupid huh? Would you allow this to happen if you worked at a daycare or preschool and had the option of sending a little child with a drunk mother?

On neither occasion !! Classic DEADBEAT MOM . (She said she was having a hard time accepting that her boyfriend had just been given a long, drug-related prison sentence)
