Miley Cyrus apologizes for Vanity Fair photos
Teen star Miley Cyrus recently posed for photographer Annie Leibovitz, who was shooting her for an upcoming issue of Vanity Fair. Though most of the photos picture a happy, fun-loving teenager, one photo of 15-year-old Miley appears to show her topless. Miley, who by all accounts was excited about the shoot, now says that she's embarrassed by the photo.Though her parents claim to be mortified, they were on the set on day. They left before the "topless" photo was taken, but Miley's grandmother and teacher were still in attendance. Vanity Fair claims that the family saw all of the shots before they were released and loved them.
I know that the tabloids are drooling over Miley right now, dying for the apparently down-to-earth star to make a mistake. It's clear that she's trying desperately not to, but she's 15...she's going to do something she regrets at some point. (Didn't we all?) It's too bad that when it happened this time, it was at the hand of adults who were supposed to be looking out for her.
I thought that maybe everyone was making too big a deal out of this, but after looking at the photo I have to agree that her young, innocent face combined with the provocative pose is disturbing. What do you think -- artistic or inappropriate?

I vote inappropriate, entirely. She's 15! And it's just so unnecessary. She's a beautiful, popular, talented girl. She seems to have good values. She could have been shown playing a guitar or walking down the street or any endless number of things. Why does she have to be naked with bedhead? I think it's pretty disturbing that her parents allowed that.

Yeah, not so appropriate for a 15 year old who is marketed to 8 year olds, but I'm a lot more disturbed by thd first photo of the article - with her and Billy Ray.
That shot just does NOT say "15 year old and her father."
Very, very creepy!

I agree about that photo, it just looks not right to me.

Totally agree that the one of Miley and Billy Ray bothered me the most. Does NOT look like a pose of father/daughter. I'm sure you could find plenty of examples with the same pose with lovers. Heck, she doesn't look that different than in the photos that leaked of her curled up with that boy.
otherwise, it's just another sad example of marketing premature sexuality on young girls. And how sad that her parents allow it.

I am upset about the photo, and also about the sexed-up photos of girls and women that appear in our media ALL THE TIME.

I have to say, I am really dissapointed. I took a risk when I let my kindergartener watch Hannah Montana. Before I would let her watch the show, I sat down and watched a few episodes. I felt no reason why it would harm my child. Hannah Montana's popularity is amoung the 6-9 year old population. Why would anyone have a child pose is such a picture? What she did was wrong. These yopung girls need to remember who's eyes are upon them, and who's parents are paying for the concerts, clothes, dolls, etc. I don't want my 6 year old thinking it's okay to be seen as a sex object.
